Special Weather Statement issued May 11 at 1:46PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK A strong weather front will begin to impact the west coast on Tuesday. Southerly winds could gust between 30 and 50 mph and there could be near blizzard conditions in snow and blowing snow. The strongest winds and lowest visibility are expected in the Bering Strait and Saint Lawrence Island. Snow and strong winds will develop over the Seward Penninsula, Yukon Delta coast and Northwest Alaska Tuesday evening into Wednesday. There is the possibility of mixed precipitation along the coast as well as elevated surf impacts for Eastern Norton Sound and along the Yukon Delta coast. There is still some uncertainty on this exact storm track, so forecasted conditions could change. Residents near the coast should be vigilant of these potential impacts and stay tuned to the latest forecast updates at www.weather.gov/afg

Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Visibility of one half mile or less at times. * WHERE...Bering Strait Coast, Southern Seward Peninsula Coast and Interior Seward Peninsula. * WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Low visibility and blowing snow conditions are expected to stay along the coast. Heavier snowfalls are more likely at higher elevations. Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.
